嘉宾简介

Haotian Gu is a distinguished Principal Investigator and group leader of the Gu Laboratory (https://www.kcl.ac.uk/research/gu-laboratory) at King's College London. In addition, he holds a prestigious NIHR Clinician Scientist and Consultant Clinical Scientist position at King’s College London and Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals.

He received his first degree in Biomedical Engineering and three master’s degrees in Advanced biomedical engineering at University of Warwick, Medical Ultrasound at Imperial College London and Health Economy at the London School of Economics. He was awarded a PhD degree in Cardiovascular Sciences at King’s College London. He started his clinical echocardiography training in 2007, received his clinical accreditation in 2010, and completed registration as a Clinical Scientist in 2017 and Higher Specialist Scientist (consultant clinical scientist) in 2019. 

He was nominated for British Heart Foundation Rising Star Award in 2018 and the first person to be awarded Investigator of the Year by British Society of Echocardiography consecutively in 2017 and 2018 and AHP awards by British and Irish Hypertension Society 3 times in 2019, 2021 and 2022.

During his academic career, he has invented a novel imaging biomarker of detection of early systolic dysfunction. His main research focus is on non-invasive measures of myocardial mechanics using echocardiography and central pressure assessments. This work has been acknowledged with a 2022 Excellence in Healthcare Science Award from the Chief Scientific Officer of NHS England.

He is currently leading on integration of clinical echocardiography services with the Clinical Research Facility to incorporate the novel marker into standard clinical practice. This integration will potentially have a huge impact on improvement of early diagnosis of heart failure and patient outcomes.
